SCOPE Primary Uniform Guidelines

At the end of the 2015-2016 school year, a survey was sent out to parents to gather information about whether school uniforms were desired in the future. The answer was a unanimous yes! At SCOPE, having uniforms aims to reduce unwanted distractions from learning and to create an equitable learning environment.

However, as with any uniform policy, not all requests can be accommodated. Please do your best to adhere to the policy as stated below for the sake of consistency across the whole school. It is hard for one parent to explain to their child why s/he can’t wear something that’s not in code when the child sees a classmate wearing it. Please also help us to “keep first things first” by recognizing that the school staff desires to use their time helping to give our children the best education possible rather than dealing with uniforms. To that end, if you have any questions or concerns about the uniform policy in the future, please direct them to Jamie Parmelee and/or Jill Pildner (contact info below).

CHANGES FROM PAST POLICY FOR 2017-2018:

  1. Uniforms will be worn five days a week. Friday will be gym day and no jumpers/skirts may be worn on Fridays.
  2. Due to the high cost of the plaid jumpers and skirts, we ask that new families en-tering the school not purchase any plaid. If you are a returning SCOPE family, we ask that you not purchase any additional plaid jumpers or skirts. Feel free to con-tinue wearing the plaid jumpers and skirts that you already have until they no longer fit. The plaid jumpers and skirts will eventually be phased out completely due to them being cost prohibitive for many families.
  3. Girls must wear shorts under jumpers/skirts when the weather is hot, and tights or black leggings under jumpers/skirts when the weather is cold. Our teachers have noted that due to the activities our students engage in, wearing shorts/tights/leggings under jumpers/skirts is necessary for the sake of maintain-ing decency. Both boys and girls will be allowed to wear light blue and light pink polo/collared shirts.

The following table contains the full uniform policy information for the 2017-2018 school year. The policy was developed with the intent of making as few changes as possible (so that families can use clothing they already have), keeping things simple, and being as fair as possible.
